Modern Languages I provides basic instruction in pronunciation, aural comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar, and eventually lead to increased communicative and cultural proficiency in the target language(s). Target language cultures, traditions, and current events are introduced on the appropriate level through selected readings, audio/visual recordings, and other authentic materials. Listening, speaking, writing, role-playing, and group activities are designed to instruct, reinforce, and connect language skills. Modern Languages I includes applications, problem solving, higher-order thinking skills, and performance-based and project-based assessments.
